Poetry Month

That's why Monroe Community College English faculty members Cathryn Smith, Kathy O'Shea and Ann Tippett have dedicated themselves to soundly squashing this particular dread. As O'Shea says, "We don't want people to be afraid of poetry; we want them to find ways to celebrate it."

So, MCC celebrates National Poetry Month every April with readings by faculty and performances by outside speakers. MCC's poetry garden, outside Building 11, was created in 2001 by art faculty member Susan Ferrari-Howley and students to create a place of inspiration and quiet reflection. The Garden features plaques and sculptures that lend a literary air to this tranquil setting.
